Paraná grew a great deal of Brazil's coffee in the last century before hard frosts pushed the industry north, and this estate carries that history: settled in the late eighteen-hundreds, owned in the nineteen-twenties by an American trading house, and well known to coffee buyers by mid-century. The Saldanha Rodrigues family took it on in the two-thousands and renovated the entire coffee area.
The farm sits in a subtropical belt with marked seasons and a wide swing between warm days and cool nights — by the estate's own description, conditions that slow the cherry and shape the cup differently from Brazil's warmer heartlands.
